Get found on google search and maps

step 1

Visit and search for your business to see if it appears on Google Search and Maps.

You'll see whether your business appears on Google Maps. If it does, nice work! Skip ahead to the “Improve your listing” section below.

If you see the message “Your business info might be incorrect on Google” click the button labeled “Verify your business info“ and skip ahead to Step 5.

If your business isn’t on the map at all, click the button labeled “Add your business info.” This sends you to Google My Business.

step 2

Now you see a map. If your business appears in the results, click on it. If not, click the link labeled “Let me enter the full business details.”

step 3

Enter or edit your business details. You cannot enter a PO box, only a physical address.

Next, select a business category by typing in a few letters and choosing an option from the list that appears below. You must choose an existing category; you can’t create your own. Don’t worry if you can’t find the perfect category—choose something close.

You can keep your residential address private and/or add a service area to your business by checking the “Yes” button beneath the sentence that reads: “I deliver goods and services to my customers at their location.” Click “Continue.”

Next, specify the service area where you do business. If your business has a service area and a physical storefront that customers can visit, check the box labeled “I also serve customers at my business address.”

step 4

Agree to the Terms of Service and confirm that you are authorized to manage this business.

step 5

Verify that you’re authorized to manage this business by entering a PIN number. To get your PIN, click “Mail.”

Click the “Send postcard” button and keep an eye out for the postcard. It should arrive with your verification PIN code in 1-2 weeks. Your business will appear as unverified until you enter the PIN.

step 6

When you receive your PIN, head back to Google My Business by visiting: Sign into your account and click the button labeled “Enter code.”

step 7

Enter the PIN in the text box and click “Submit” to verify your business.

Congratulations! You’ve set up Google My Business. Now your business can show up across Google Search and Maps.

Improve your listing

To keep your Google My Business information updated and take advantage of other features, check out the Google My Business dashboard. Access the dashboard by signing in to your Google My Business account at

Make edits:

To edit your business info from the dashboard, click the red “Edit” button and select the pencil icons. You can update your business address, including adjusting the icon that appears on Google Maps. You can also add more categories, contact numbers, your website, operating hours, special hours, and more.

Stay in the conversation:

Find the reviews section on your dashboard. Once your listing is verified, you can read and respond to customer reviews left on Google about your business. Responding to reviews builds relationships with customers. Here are a few tips:

  • Be polite and don’t get personal.
  • Keep responses short and courteous.
  • Respond to positive reviews, to thank people for sharing feedback.
  • Resist the urge to sell. Reviewers are customers, so there’s no need to offer incentives.

Get stats:

The dashboard also has a section labeled “Insights” with data showing how people interacted with your business information across Google.

If you advertise with Google, see performance stats and access your account directly from the dashboard, via the section labeled “AdWords Express.”
