Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this offer available to businesses outside the US?
This offer is only available to US businesses.
- Do I have to meet any qualifications as a small business to take advantage of this offer?
No, any business or organization can sign up.
- What does this free site package include?
This free offer includes a free domain name and hosting for your Intuit website for one year. The free site includes 3 free pages, 25MG of disk space and 5GB of bandwidth (monthly transfer). Email and ecommerce are not included. However, you can purchase additional pages, disk space, email addresses, ecommerce solutions and many other add-ons from Intuit. If you wish to learn more about pricing, please call 1-800-710-1998, dial 5 when prompted and you’ll be connected with a web sales consultant.
- Why does it ask for my credit card? I thought this was free.
The domain name and hosting for your new Intuit website is free for one year. Intuit requires a credit card to complete the domain registration process because your credit card number is the easiest way to validate domain ownership. This is standard practice and protects against someone else trying to claim your domain name. Also, this helps Intuit automatically renew your domain a year after registration, to avoid your domain being released back to the public. If you do not wish to be charged after your free year is up, you can cancel at any time.
- Do I have to have a credit card to create my free website?
No, you do not. However, you must have a credit card to register your own ‘vanity’ domain name (e.g. www.mybusinessname.com). If you don’t need a vanity domain, you can still publish your website as an Intuit websites subdomain (e.g. www.mybusinessname.intuitwebsites.com). By publishing with this Intuit address, you aren’t required to enter a credit card. Please be aware, however, that if you don’t enter a credit card before your free year ends, your site hosting will discontinue and you will no longer be able to access your account. We will send you reminder emails prior to your year end.
- What happens after the first year of free hosting/domain? How much does it cost?
Your free year starts on the day you sign up for your Intuit Websites account. After your first year of free service, you'll automatically be billed $6.99 per month if you registered a domain with Intuit, or $4.99 per month if you did not sign up for a domain. You can cancel these services at any time by logging into your account, navigating to your Account Summary and then clicking the link, “Cancel all services.”
- Will I be charged after one year if I don’t manually cancel?
You will start being charged automatically once the free year is up if you provided a credit card at the time of signup. However, we'll send you reminder emails prior to your year end reminding you that your free year is almost up, and you will start to be charged. If you don't want to continue hosting your site or domain through Intuit, you are able to cancel at any time. You can cancel these services by logging into your account, navigating to your Account Summary and then clicking the ’Cancel all services’ link.
- When my domain is registered, why do I get asked to pay $1 a month for privacy? What is privacy?
This is optional protection for your personal information. When you register a domain, your contact information is entered into a public database. You can keep your information private for $1.00/month per domain to avoid telemarketing and spam. Intuit recommends that you get privacy for your domain to:
- Protect your contact information from spammers.
- Help reduce junk mail/unsolicited telemarketing.
- Guard against fraud and identity theft.
- If I have two businesses, can I create two free websites?
As stated in our terms and conditions, you understand and agree that this offer of the services is only available on the basis of one website and one domain name per small business.
- Who owns my domain and website?
The person that registers a domain name owns it. The account creator and payment provider of the website owns the website.
- Do I have a contract with Intuit?
Please be aware that if you provided a credit card at the time of sign-up, we will automatically start charging you once the year is up. However, you can cancel the service prior to your free year end at any time without penalty.
